Every July, an event takes place in the Dorset village of Tolpuddle, to commemorate a group of farm-workers who got together to call for higher pay – and found themselves being transported to Australia for their efforts. The treatment of the Tolpuddle Martyrs became infamous, and eventually led to the laws around trade unions being changed.
This year’s Festival will be taking place this weekend (16th – 18th July), and will be available online, so if you’re intrigued, take a look at their website.
