Closing date for applications: 18 September 2020
The Nationwide Group Staff Union are looking for two Individual Cases Officers to join our team. One to join us on a permanent basis to start as soon as possible, the other on a year’s secondment from Nationwide, starting in January 2021 for 12 months. The role location is flexible and can be home based or in a Nationwide Admin Centre but the job will require travel to Nationwide Admin centres and branches to support union members (arrangements are subject to covid-19 restrictions). Working on your own and ability to use your initiative is essential.
For the secondment, your current Nationwide terms and conditions, including salary, will apply, and you’ll return to your substantive role in January 2022. The position is also open to those who are at risk of redundancy and on the redeployment register.
We are looking for individuals with a passion for helping people, who are organised, energetic, diplomatic and self-motivated but are also a strong team players, to work with our members and our Representatives. Active membership, or experience as a representative in a Union or similar organisation, would be preferred.
We aim to offer our members the very best representation possible and we’d expect that same commitment from you. You will advise, support and represent our members on all aspects of their employment and they will need to rely on your expertise to consult and negotiate with Nationwide’s managers and People & Culture function. The role will include providing general employment advice (telephone helpline and webchat) and formally representing our members at disciplinary (capability and conduct) hearings, grievances, change consultation and appeal meetings.
You will be asked to get involved with recruitment events for new members.
A major part of the role is supporting our members through the change process and liaising with P&C and senior managers; the skill to challenge in a constructive way and the ability to have a strategic view is key to this part of the role. Experience in this area would therefore be beneficial.
Experience in representing and supporting members through any of Nationwide’s P&C processes will be advantageous.
You will also find yourself working with and supporting our elected Representatives to enable them to represent their members’ views to Nationwide’s leadership teams; to raise the profile of the Union, demonstrating the benefits of a strong union; and to be active in the recruitment of new members. With local Representatives, you may also be asked to lead on Business Committees or Employee Involvement Committee to discuss matters of concern in specific business areas with senior managers.
We will provide you with a full induction into the role, and ongoing support and help to enable you to fulfil the role and meet the high standards we set ourselves. Please email karin@ngsu.org.uk or diana@ngsu.org.uk if you require any further information. If you decide to apply for the role, please email us at ngsu@ngsu.org.uk to request an application form to be submitted by 18 September 2020.
